Colours & Seasons |

Colours of the Liturgical Seasons
Colours are used throughout the Christian Calendar to denote different season or moods. You can see these colours on the altar frontal, and both the Celbrant’s chasuble (robe) and stole (scarf). |
Gold or White |
These are the festival colours and denote happy times. They are used at Christmas and Easter, on many of the saint's days who are not venerated as martyrs, and on all occasions of great significance to individual Christian people such as Baptism, Confirmation, Weddings or Ordination. |

Llight, Joy & Purity for Christ, Mary and the Saints. |
Red |
Red is the colour of the Holy Spirit, used is services which focus on the Spirit such as Whitsun. It also represents the blood of the martyred saints, so is used on specific Saints days. Finally, it is used to represent the blood of Christ, so is seen during Holy Week, with the exception Maundy Thursday). |

Purple |
Purple is a sombre colour used for reflection and preparation during the festivals of Advent and Lent. It is sometimes used for Funerals |

Penitence & Preparation for Advent and Lent. |
Green |
Although it has its own significance, green is used at all times when one of the other colours is not appropriate. |

Hope & Creation for all other times. |
