Sunday Morning Live! 5th Feb.
2012
Third Sunday before
Lent
Welcome to our Sunday Morning Live
Celebration
Fr. Marcus does the welcome, and
then we sing:
This is the
day,
This is the
day that the Lord has made,
That the
Lord has made.
We will
rejoice,
We will
rejoice and be glad in it,
And be glad
in it.
This is the
day that the Lord has made,
We will
rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the
day,
This is the
day that the Lord has made.
This is the
day,
This is the
day when he rose again,
When he rose
again.
We will
rejoice,
We will
rejoice and be glad in it,
And be glad
in it.
This is the
day when he rose again.
We will
rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the
day,
This is the
day when he rose again.
This is the
day,
This is the
day when the Spirit came,
When the Spirit
came.
We will
rejoice,
We will
rejoice and be glad in it,
And be glad
in it.
This is the
day when the Spirit came.
We will
rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the
day,
This is the
day when the Spirit came.
We start to make a plan, because we are fed up with
people being a bunch of Rat Bags, so we want to take over the world. Let’s do it
!
Who wants to be elected as our
Leader?
We can use flip
charts and everything.
We sing:
Cast your
burdens unto Jesus,
Because he cares for
you.
Cast your burdens unto Jesus,
Because he
cares for you.
Higher,
higher,
Higher, higher, higher, higher
Higher,
higher, Lift Jesus higher. X2
Cast your
burdens unto Jesus,
Because he cares for
you.
Cast your burdens unto Jesus,
Because he
cares for you.
Higher,
higher,
Higher, higher, higher, higher
Higher,
higher, Lift Jesus higher. X2
Lower,
lower,
Lower, lower, lower, lower
Lower, lower,
stomp Satan lower. X2
Higher,
higher,
Higher, higher, higher, higher
Higher,
higher, Lift Jesus higher. X2
Cast your
burdens unto Jesus,
Because he cares for
you.
Cast your burdens unto Jesus,
Because he
cares for you.
We hear about Jesus gathering his
disciples.
Verses from John and Matthew’s
Gospels
The next day
Jesus decided to go to Galilee. When he got there, he met Philip and said,
"Come, follow me." (Philip's hometown was Bethsaida,
the same as Andrew and Peter.)
Philip went and
found Nathanael and told him, "We've found the One
Moses wrote of in the Law, the One preached by the prophets. It's Jesus,
Joseph's son, the one from Nazareth!" Nathanael said,
"Nazareth? You've got to be kidding."
But Philip said,
"Come, see for yourself."
When Jesus saw
him coming he said, "There's a real Israelite, not a false bone in his
body."
Nathanael said, "Where did you get that idea? You don't know
me."
Jesus answered,
"One day, long before Philip called you here, I saw you under the fig
tree."
Nathanael exclaimed, "Rabbi! You are the Son of God, the King
of Israel!"
Walking along
the beach of Lake Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers: Simon (later called Peter)
and Andrew. They were fishing, throwing their nets into the lake. It was their
regular work. Jesus said to them, "Come with me. I'll make a new kind of
fisherman out of you. I'll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch
and bass." They didn't ask questions, but simply dropped their nets and
followed.
A short distance
down the beach they came upon another pair of brothers, James and John, Zebedee's sons. These two
were sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee,
mending their fishnets. Jesus made the same offer to them, and they were just as
quick to follow, abandoning boat and father.
Passing along,
Jesus saw a man at his work collecting taxes. His name was Matthew. Jesus said,
"Come along with me." Matthew stood up and followed him.
Later when Jesus
was eating supper at Matthew's house with his close followers, a lot of
disreputable characters came and joined them. When the Pharisees saw him keeping
this kind of company, they had a fit, and asked Jesus' followers. "What kind of
example is this from your Teacher, acting cozy with
crooks and riffraff?"
Jesus,
overhearing, replied, "Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? Go and work
out what this Scripture means: 'I'm after mercy, not religion.' I'm here to
invite outsiders, not coddle insiders."
We unpack a different way. Jesus’
Way. Not about power and plans, but....well let’s find
out.
So, now we
sing:
We want to see
Jesus lifted high
A banner that flies across the
land
That all men might see the truth and know
He is the way to heaven
(Chorus)
We want to see
Jesus lifted high
A banner that flies across the
land
That all men might see the truth and know
He is the way to
heaven
We want to see
(3 claps), we want to see (3 claps)
We want to see
(3 claps) Jesus lifted high
We want to see, we want to see
We want to see
Jesus lifted high
Step by
step we’re moving forward
little by little, taking ground
Every prayer a powerful weapon
Strongholds come tumbling
down and down
and down and down
Chorus
We want to see
(3 claps), we want to see (3 claps)
We want to see
(3 claps) Jesus lifted high
We want to see, we want to see
We want to see
Jesus lifted high
Chorus
We’re gonna see, we’re gonna
see
we’re gonna see Jesus lifted high
We’re gonna see, we’re gonna see
we’re gonna see Jesus
lifted high
We spend some time in prayer, including the Lord’s
Prayer:
As our Saviour taught us, so we
pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will
be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily
bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we
forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power
and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
We sing our final
song
Everyone needs compassion
A love
that’s never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs
forgiveness
The kindness of a Saviour
The hope of
nations
Chorus
Saviour, He can move mountains
my
God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
forever
Author of
Salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the
grave
So take me as you find me
All my fears and failures
fill my life again
I give my
life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I
surrender
Chorus
Shine your light and let the whole
world see
We’re singing, for the glory of the risen
King, Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We’re singing,
for the glory of the risen King, Jesus
Chorus
(stamp
stamp, clap. As in ‘We Will Rock You’, by
Queen)
Shine your light and let the whole
world see
We’re singing, for the glory of the risen
King, Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We’re singing,
for the glory of the risen King, Jesus
Please join us for refreshments

As part of his
farewell tour, Bishop John is coming here to preach at a Sung Evensong on
Saturday 3rd March at 5.00pm.
Pact Spring
Lecture on the 20th April.
Bishop Sandy
Millar has now confirmed that the title of his talk is:
"Christianity -
boring, untrue, irrelevant?"
Bishop
Sandy is passionate
about a relationship with God that goes beyond 'church' and religion as we know
it. He will be exploring whether a
living God is relevant to our lives and communities today and also how we can
take hold of that reality for ourselves.
This will be a talk suitable for
‘churched’ & ‘non-churched’ people so an ideal opportunity to invite those
who might not be attracted to a traditional service.
